Sweet Land... a love story

Yesterday for my Social Psych class I was listening to an MPR broadcast which talked with journalist Lori Gottlieb about her article published in March of 2008 in the Atlantic Monthly titled Marry Him! The case for settling for Mr. Good Enough. Great article and broadcast which I've put links to at the bottom in case anyone's interested. However, at the beginning of a broadcast they mention the film "Sweet Land" and after looking it up on IMDb I decided to give it a try. Excellent movie! I highly recommend it!

The film came out in 2007 and the Boston Globe writes that it's "a lovely, old-fashioned farm romance quietly doubling as a commentary on immigration and American identity." It's the story of a German mail-order bride who comes to MN in the post-WWI era to marry Olaf, a Norwegian immigrant. The minister forbids their marriage and experience disapproval from the whole town, but the two fall in love anyways. It's a very cute story with a few parts that made my roommate and I laugh out loud.

So if you're looking for a good movie... try it out and let me know how you like it!
