Hiking, Surprises, Trains, Francs

Well, in the last few days of our lives the 3 of us have taken on new attitudes towards hiking. I have come to love, but Kendra and Leah don't seem to share this love. We arrived to Cinque Terre to find our room in our hostel was just the 3 of us with a private bathroom and we had a terrace overlooking the sea where we watched the sunset. Besides enjoying the beautiful sunsets and eating all we did was hike. We started out a little after 9 am and didn't finish our hike until around 3:30 pm. The first 15 minutes were paved along the cliffs and from there it gradually got more challenging. The last 3 hours were very small rock paths along the cliffs and a LOT of up hill. The whole time, however, we were along the sea and there were wildflowers and birds everywhere. It was gorgeous and by far one of my favorite things I've done in Europe.

The day we hiked was Leah's birthday (AND MY BABY SISTER'S!) so along the trail Kendra and I would tell her we had 21 surprises for her. They consisted of things like gummies we found in the dirt, wild poppies, random old bridges, a rainbow, finding out we didn't have hot water, etc. They were all impromptu surprises por supuesto but it was fun to make them up :) We ate supper out for her birthday and I ordered pasta with scampi which came fresh... crayfish looking buggers with eyes and all. That was fun to try and eat.

When we arrived in Interlaken we spent our first day hiking, of course. Interlaken is pretty small but also incredibly beautiful. It was raining and foggy so instead of hiking up the mountains we took a path through the valley that had waterfalls, cows, goats, sheep, and farmhouses everywhere, plus a river running down the middle of that valley. This is now my other favorite spot in Europe. Our second day here we went paragliding and we had such a great time. The guides were fun. Kendra asked hers if he does any other extreme sports which he replied with... yes, stamp collecting.

Also, Switzerland to our surpise is not a part of the EU and therefore we had to use Francs... ick!
