The President Is Coming!

Yes, the president is coming. We found out last week that Obama will be speaking at a rally on campus this afternoon/evening, and our professor cancelled class so we could all attend. Many of my friends have seen Obama speak before, but it was when he was campaigning. In the past week I've begun to realize how rare it is to actually see/hear the sitting president speak in person. Whether the president is the candidate you voted for or not, and whether or not you support him/her (hopefully someday!) it's still a really cool event to witness! Obama's speaking on campus near my building, and this morning going to and from class I got to walk through all the craziness! I saw a coach bus full of security guards arrive, an armored sheriff car vehicle pull up and people coming out the back of the truck, and the line was already forming to get in even though the area is completely fenced off yet. I'm meeting some people from my cohort at 2 where we'll begin our wait in that line. The gates open at 3:30 and the rally begins at 4:45. The rally will also be featuring musical guest Ben Harper!

If you can't tell, I'm excited to attend a.) my first political rally and b.) to see the president. Speaking of rallies... I don't want to get political on this blog because I respect that my readers will not share the same beliefs as I do and I do not wish to turn people away, however, this rally is worthy of mention... does anyone want to carpool to D.C. for this October 30th rally? I think it would be fun.
