Homesick

I got hit with a small wave of homesickness a little over a month ago, and now I got hit again last night. Most of the people in our group have Tandem partners whom we usually meet with once a month and they help us with our Spanish and we help them with English. Most of our partners are professors who need to learn English because in so many years the professors at our university are going to be required to teach in both languages. My Tandem partner's name is Fuen and she's a geology professor. She just started taking English classes within the last year so she's at a lower level but it's fun to work with her because she's so eager to learn the language and she's also great about correcting me and teaching me new things.

Back in February I spent a day with her and her 2 sons just hanging out and walking through the park by the river and her boys are learning English as well. Last night I went to her house for supper and to talk some more with her kids. It was so much fun and I think it's what made me homesick. I was in a house (not a small apartment) with an entire family and just being with them while everyone set the table and sat around talking and laughing and being goofy made me realize how much I've missed that. Then when I got home my host mom made a comment about my speaking that brought me down a little (she doesn't usually make comments about my speaking level, she just helps me) so I've decided that as much as I have enjoyed Spain and living with my host mom, I'm ready to be with my real family and friends again.

I may have mentioned in an earlier post that I have a list of all the things I want to do in Segovia my last few days here, and so far I've only been able to complete 2 of them because it's been rainy and cold since Tuesday. So, yesterday morning I went to La Colonial for a chocolate caliente and Monday evening I went up to the castle and watched the sun set. I hope the weather gets better soon so that I can get a few more sunsets in... they're beautiful here.

Alyssa, I've missed you so much and cannot wait for you to come home, it's been way too long, Easter was not the same without you home, but luckily we will be doing out Egg hunt when you get back. I love you and can't wait to see you soon!
