The Mastering of the Knife
I mentioned in an earlier post that we use knives to cut and eat everything here. I thought I had finally done a good job of learning to use it but still had to switch my fork to my right hand to actually eat the food. Well, I am proud to say that for the last few weeks I have been cutting and eating my food with knife in right hand and fork in left hand for the entire time. Also, the bread. People here use it as another utensil such as to push food onto their fork or spoon. I usually just set my utensils down, tore of some bread, ate it, then picked the utensils back up and returned to eating. However, I've also begun to eat the real way! This is so exciting for me because now the grandkids don't look at me funny when I eat. I'm proud of accomplishing this feat. Next on my list of skills to acquire? Making tortilla espaƱol.

In Guatemala, they use tortillas and tamalitos (dense corn mass wrapped in leaves) like a utensil! The first few days before I realized what I was doing, I would just make everything into a taco... think about spaghetti tacos. Hehe, and then I saw that that's not was everyone else was doing.
