Today marks the end of my first week here in Madison. This week I've met all 15 other people in my program, some 2nd year Master's students as well as a few of the PhD students. I've also met many of the professors including my advisor who, based on first impressions, is WONDERFUL! Turns out she has a little bit of background in my research interests and would also considering doing an independent study with me on this topic next semester so that I don't have to wait until my second year to take an elective on it. It would also possibly give me a jump start on my thesis! Whoo hoo.
Also big this week, well... today, I GOT INTERNET AND CABLE! This means that while I do my best to conserve energy and only use one light at a time, unplug things when I'm not using them, etc, I do actually have my televison tuned in to the Twins game while I sit here on the computer. I just need my fix of life outside my apartment. It's also nice to have my tv turned on to shows I like making it feel more like a home here, rather than a room I sit and eat in.
Yesterday I had my department's orientation followed by a picnic at one of the professors' house. Today I had lunch with Peg, a very funny girl in my cohort, and then I headed to campus for a bit and biked around a bit then decided to lay low for the rest of the evening. I'm working on packing for the weekend. I leave tomorrow morning for my cousin's wedding back in MN, then it's Gladioulus Days in good ol' SC. I'll be return Madison Sunday to prepare for a piano audition Monday morning :) Happy weekend!
Also, let's keep our fingers crossed that there's lots of polka played at the wedding dance!
