Madrid and MaryAlice

Here are some pictures from our first excursion, Madrid style. They really don't show that much of the city and looking back I don't know what I did there because I sure wasn't taking any pictures!
Kendra and her bocadillo our first day. Every excursion we went on our host moms made us lunches consisting of bocadillos (sandwiches) and usually a piece of fruit. We always compared what our moms made us and Kendra often won. A winning bocadillo was usually a piece of Spanish tortilla in half a loaf of French bread.
A group of EXTREMELY talented musicians we saw around the city a few different nights
Just a cool pic of the city at night
I love this picture. I was just taking it of Ash because I thought her pose was great and the bus driving by was pure luck.
A group of us deciding what to do.
I don't know if I've mentioned in earlier posts but I'm finding myself to be unemployed for the summer. It's not by choice. Well, at first it wasn't by choice. I'm not a person that can do nothing. As stressful as the school year is I like being busy and the busier I am the more productive I tend to be in my spare time. I never thought I could go a whole summer without having something to do. I've started doing some research for the Children's Grief Connection, formerly known as Camp Amanda. The director is looking in to starting some sort of program for young adults and when I called her to ask if she had anything she wanted some help with she handed this project over to me. I'm really just doing basic research right now on the different developmental traits of this age group and also looking in other programs that offer similar support around the country. I'm really enjoying the time I spend doing this research and it helps me to feel useful. I'm also planning to take the GRE at the end of the summer so I'm filling my time studying for that. Ickkkkk.

My dear friend MaryAlice came to stay with me last night. She is flying to Washington Friday morning for an ROTC camp and had a PT test at St. John's this morning so she came up yesterday and spent the night. MaryAlice has been one of my good friends since freshman year and we lived in the same suite sophomore year and last fall we lived in apartments near each other. She's one of the few people I am willing to have a long phone conversation with often as we always have a lot to say. Well, mainly she has a lot to say! MaryAlice is full of great stories, mostly about her family members (she comes from a large Texan family). We're always laughing together and I really missed her while being away. We've had plenty of phone conversations since I've been home but since she was living in Tennessee with her sister until now, yesterday was the first I've seen her since I've been home. While we only talked a limited amount during my time in Spain, spending time with her again felt wonderful and like there was never any distance between us. I love having friends like that!
